Sunrise smack down in Boca Grande with long time clients Jen and Dave out of Denver Colorado. We were the only boat in Boca Grande pass at first light which is rare and there was a pile of fish for the taking. We hooked several fish and got a few boat side for autographs. Lots of tarpon snook and snapper to be had over the next few months so jump on a plane and come get a sunburn with Salty Jaw Charters.
Had the family out for some Tarpon fishing in Boca Grande pass and we got into a couple nice ones. Brooklyn my oldest who’s 10 got to feel the power of a tarpon for the first time what a special evening. The fish were slurping the crabs off the top of the water as the sun slowly dragged down to the horizon. There’s lots of Tarpon still in the area and the snapper fishing is really good as well.
Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing July 2025: Post-Spawn Feeding Frenzy Creates Epic Fishing Conditions7/7/2025 The tarpon and snook fishing has been absolutely phenomenal lately in sunny southwest Florida! July through October is considered peak time for post-spawn tarpon fishing, when these silver kings stay in Charlotte Harbor to feed aggressively before their southern migration. After the spawning ritual concludes in early July, most tarpon remain in the area to feed on the abundant baitfish Charlotte Harbor offers, providing excellent fishing opportunities through October.
The mangrove snapper have showed up in strong numbers which are fun to catch and are great table fare. These scrappy fighters hang out near docks and mangroves throughout the area, and catching them has been quite the experience. They're as tasty as can be and make excellent additions to any fish fry. Before long starting in August, big schools of redfish that push into the mid-30 inch range will be showing up. These bull reds provide incredible light tackle action and are a staple of Southwest Florida fishing. The timing couldn't be better as we transition from peak tarpon season into prime redfish territory. July offers some unique advantages for serious anglers. This is the favorite time for experienced guides, as the nomad tarpon fleet departs and fish focus solely on feeding before migration. It's common to have thousands of tarpon all to yourself during this period, often not seeing another boat for miles. The period from May through July offers the most consistent tarpon fishing of the year, and we're right in the sweet spot. King and Spanish mackerel have been active around the reefs and wrecks, providing fast, fierce action for those looking to mix things up. Cobia are also in the area - these bruisers are strong, smart fish that make worthy adversaries for any angler. Nearshore action for grouper and various snapper species has been solid when weather conditions allow. Boca Grande Pass, the deepest natural pass in Florida with depths reaching up to 80 feet, continues to be fed by the Peace and Myakka rivers, creating perfect conditions. Charlotte Harbor, the second largest estuary in Florida, holds more tarpon from April through October than any single location in the state. The miles of pristine beaches around Gasparilla Island serve as a natural highway for thousands of tarpon during their annual migration. Weather has been cooperative with warm, sunny days providing optimal conditions. The fish are more active during these months, making for better chances of successful catches. Live crabs, threadfin herring, pinfish, squirrelfish, ladyfish, and mullet have all been productive baits. Sight casting and fly fishing remain popular methods for those seeking the ultimate challenge. Still have dates available in July so jump on a plane and book your Boca Grande fishing charter today! With Boca Grande's reputation as the "Tarpon Fishing Capital of the World" and current exceptional fishing conditions, don't wait to secure your dates. July offers some of the best tarpon fishing of the year with fewer crowds and hungry, aggressive fish. You'll be perfectly positioned for the incoming redfish schools in August while enjoying world-class fishing in the heart of Southwest Florida's premier fishing destination. |
